Hi there :))

I believe I have one of your pieces of art signed by you that I bought at an auction here in Ontario, Canada.  It is beautiful.  I have searched through all of your pieces that I can find online but still cannot find out what the name of this one is.  If I send you a picture of it, would you be able to tell me if you remember it at all?  Your signature appears to be on top of the actual print which just says c. munro and what I believe is 1967.  I can be contacted at barter.gagnon@rogers.com.  Thanks a bunch & have alovely day.

Sincerely,

Sheri Gagnon

Folk Art Game Boards, with Charlie Munro

Create two 20” x 20” painted gameboards with the whimsical inspiration of Charlie Munro. Choose from several different games such as checkers, Parcheesi, and backgammon. Motifs from nineteenth century gameboards and Nantucket-inspired images make a truly unique and functional work of art. Each board has a wood frame allowing for painting on both sides and hanging for display.

For years, nautical whirligigs have been put on pedestals for their worth as works of art by folk-art carvers. This is a beginner’s workshop designed for the do-it-yourselfer. Bring your favorite carving knife, or we will provide one for you to use and choose from several rough-cut patterns of miniature sailors. Students will have the opportunity to paint and finish their ‘gig’ to take home!

Artists in the class will have many choices of subjects to choose from including those pictured, and your family folk art portraits, your house, etc. Color balance, drawing, mixing colors, composition, and finishing details will be learned. You will leave with finished 6” paintings ready to frame.

JAN MUNRO is an internationally recognized folk artist whose work is included in many major collections and museums. A few include the Smithsonian, New York State Historical Association, and Sotheby’s.
The Nantucket Whaling Museum is privileged to have had Jan and Charlie Munro contribute a mural on a wall in the Discovery Room.

Talking about PAINTINGS by: CHARLIE MUNRO

Quote : Thought I would post the recent Press Release about the show.

Kindreds in Osterville presents Side by Side
Two legendary folk artists, Jan and Charles Munro, will be exhibiting for a week at Kindreds in Osterville this August.

A partnership for more than 40 years, artists Jan and Charles Munro continue to amaze art collectors, museum curators and visual arts critics with the offerings of their self-taught skills.
A new show, Side by Side at Kindreds Antiques and Folk Art in Osterville, presents the two legends to the public side by side for the first time in many years.

With a mission to give us a pictorial history of American life, Jan Munro’s canvases present stories of New England village life and maritime lore unlike the books on any shelf. As critics attest, Jan Munro’s works reveal the color ful details of a past that begs to be celebrated. By using a technique of teasing the canvas with realism and then taking it away, she continually captures something more alive than real.

Charles Munro carries history into sculpture and moving parts. His self-taught style has projected a combination of warmth and masculinity into the contemporary folk art world. Using wood and paint as only he can meld them, his pieces seem to emerge as a bit of history themselves.

Together, this unique husband and wife team are partners in art, collaborators in a tremendous success story for the Cape Cod art scene, and a pair of talented individuals who have each made a significant contribution to the world of folk art in the United States.

Brimfield

I just returned from our first show of the Season.  It was the Brimfield Antiques Show.  The week was long - chilly- and a few rainy days.  In spite of all of that - the crowds came.  Setting up on Monday - our expectations were grim - due to the economy and gas prices!!  But, by the end of the week - most dealers had a succesful show.  Many of our collectors came to see our new paintings and made several new friends through out the week.

I have added some pictures of the sites on and around our field.
